Title: Origins of the Cadre 1 (of 4)
Publisher Name: Nifty Comics Writer: Mat Nastos and Andrew Pellerito Art: Aluisio de Souza and Alexandre Palomaro 3.50, 32 pages, Black & White Safety Content Label: A - Appropriate for age 9 and up. Publishers Blurb: In the first part of this four-issue mini series, we present to you for the first time anywhere, the origin of the Cadre’s resident energy pirate, Lamprey!Diamond Comic Distributors calls the Cadre “the sort of saga that got you hooked on comics in the first place,” and “a great team comic for fans suffering from X-Men or Teen Titans withdrawal.” Reviewer Comments: Matt Nastos' CADRE books are the kind of thing that make me love doing this job. He captures everything that I once loved about comics. He makes them fun without making them silly. And, the man knows how to write a team book. I'd say put him on at some of the big guns, but, selfishly, I want him right where he is, working on more of the CADRE. Issue #1 of ORIGINS OF THE CADRE focuses on Chris Squires, AKA, LAMPREY. Lamprey is my favorite on the team, and this issue proves why. He has that FUN spider-man feel. The real fun Spider-man feel, not the stuff they're trying to convince is "fun" over in Spidey, now. But, under all the fun, lies a tragic past. I'll admit, there is a panel in this book that really got to me. The powerful wording of Chris Squires dedication to his late Mom and Dad - especially the last line- in a novel he wrote, that...well, let's just say I found myself blinking a few extra times. The art is very nice. it's clean and bold, the way I like it. It has a Chris Sprouse with a dash of Humberto Ramos flavor to it. There are some truly great poses in here, and Souza is a master at expressions. If you remember what you first loved about super-hero comics, and want to find that again, check out Nastos' ORIGINS OF THE CADRE, and his regular series THE CADRE. It's all here. |
